Incident Report for Bitly

Google Cloud experienced an outage with their Global Load Balancing (GLB) service which affected Bitly services globally for 22 minutes from 17:48Z to 18:10Z ( 12:48pm - 1:10pm US Eastern Time) on Nov 16th.

During this outage the Bitly website ( and our API returned HTTP 404 (page not found) responses and users were unable to create new links.

Existing links on and Custom Domains configured with a DNS CNAME record were briefly impacted while automatic mitigations took effect but continued to function. Custom Domains configured with DNS A records were impacted and returned 404 responses.

We apologize for the inconvenience this outage has caused and understand the impact to our customers. We place a high value on the reliability of our service and are evaluating ways to improve our ability to mitigate this type of issue.
